Would someone—preferably someone who identifies as evangelical—explain why evangelicals try to defend Jerry Falwell?
In contrast: Daniel C. Dennett is one of my people, but I still find him embarrassing on occasion.

Which evangelicals are defending Jerry Falwell? He's a big boy, he can take care of himself...
I'm reluctant to name names on the blog, but I when I told a story over lunch about a particular incident, it elicited another, similar story from a colleague. And one of those defenders is a pretty big boy himself... I can be more specific in person, if you're still curious.
